How the work is done in water and waste
A scattered network of manholes, chambers and tanks: the typical job is done alone, below ground and with atmospheres that give no warning. Confined space work is the daily bread.
The jobs that set the pace
- Cleaning of sewers and manholes
- Pumping station maintenance
- Work in digesters and thickeners
- Reagent dosing
- Wastewater plant operation
The installations it comes with as standard
- Pre-treatment
- Primary settling
- Biological reactor
- Sludge digester
- Dewatering
- Blower room
- Reagent store
- Biogas flare
- Discharge point
Lockout/tagout, with isolation point and verification
The dashboard does not ask “what energies does your equipment have?”: in the water and waste profile they are already there, each one with where it is isolated and how you check that it is isolated. It is what an inspection asks to see in writing.
| Energy | Isolation point | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| Electrical | MCC isolator | Verification of the absence of voltage |
| Chemistry (reagents) | Hypochlorite or polyelectrolyte line valve | Rinsing and drainage check |
| Biogas | Isolation valve and flame arrester | Inert purge and CH₄ reading below 10 % LEL |
| Hydraulics | Centrifuge hydraulic power pack | Accumulator discharge |
| Pneumatic | Blower air valve | Bleed and gauge at 0 bar |
| Stored mechanical energy | Clarifier bridge lockout | Check that the rake has stopped |
The high-risk procedures, written down
Five procedures specific to water and waste, written in the vocabulary of the sector and available inside the dashboard so you can adapt them to your plant.
Confined spaces with H₂S
Continuous monitoring from outside and throughout the work: hydrogen sulphide stops smelling just when it kills.
Lockout of remote pumping stations
Starts are automatic on level: without a local lockout, the remote control starts the pump with someone inside.
Biological risk
Wastewater: vaccination, PPE and a protocol for cuts and splashes.
Digesters and digester gas
Methane and ATEX: inerting, measurement and rated equipment before opening anything.
Chlorine and reagents
Unloading and transfer with a dedicated procedure, emergency shower in service and escape sets.
Equipment and reference regulations
Equipment typical of this profile
- Positive displacement blower
- Dewatering centrifuge
- Clarifier bridge
- Sludge pump
- Rotary screen
- Reagent dosing unit
- Gasholder
- Flare
Regulations that frame the work
- RD 1215/1997 · work equipment
- NTP 223 · work in confined spaces
- RD 681/2003 · ATEX in biogas areas
- RD 374/2001 · chemical agents
- RD 664/1997 · biological agents
Current references the dashboard uses to organise the documentation. IndustriaKit is a documentation tool: it does not replace the risk assessment or legal advice.
- Confined space entry procedure
- Integrated environmental permit
- Atmosphere measurement records
What the dashboard does with all this
Contractors and coordination of activities
Contractors working on site join free, upload their documentation and the traffic light decides who can work. RD 171/2004 coordination with minutes and signature.
Permits with QR codes
Work permit with a printable notice: in the field it is scanned and signed from a phone. LOTO warning when the job calls for it.
Maintenance and OEE
Queue prioritised by criticality, statutory maintenance schedules with their date, counters based on real usage and an OEE panel per line with a Pareto of stoppages.
Personnel and training
Fitness for work, training and health surveillance by job role, with the medical data kept outside the dashboard by design.
Open it with the water and waste profile and compare it with your folder
The demo opens with no card and no sales call. You choose this same sector and walk into a plant that looks like yours, with sample data you can play with without breaking anything.
The other industries in the dashboard
Each profile brings its own vocabulary, its own areas, its own energies and its own procedures. There are sixteen.
